The STIKO recommends vaccination with Comirnaty for 12- to 17-year-olds with pre-existing conditions.

1.7.2021

Due to the increased risk of a severe course of the disease in children and adolescents with pre-existing diseases (e.g. diabetes, Down syndrome, congenital or acquired immunodeficiency), the STIKO recommends administering two vaccine doses with Comirnaty at intervals of 3 to 6 weeks.

The recommendation also applies to children and adolescents who have relatives or other contacts at high risk for severe COVID-19. This would include, for example, those who cannot be vaccinated themselves or for whom there is a reasonable suspicion of insufficient protection after vaccination. In such cases vaccination is recommended according to the same plan.

There is currently no general recommendation for the use of Comirnaty for children and adolescents ages 12 to 17 without pre-existing conditions. However, vaccination for members of this group would be possible after a discussion of the relevant medical information and given that the individual child or adolescent or their guardian wishes for vaccination and accepts the risk.
